Would you like to see the cutest, sweetest little man, ever?
Meet William Waylon. He was FINALLY born at 4:36 p.m. this afternoon, after 36 hrs of very intense, active labor. To say that Waylon’s parents are rock stars is putting it mildly. I’ve rarely seen such hard working, laboring parents. They met ever obstacle, every hurdle with determination & grit. But when it became evident that all the work was stressing poor Waylon too much, we had to make the hard decision to transfer to the hospital.
I’d like to give a HUGE public shout out to Alex, our L&D nurse at #KootenaiHealth for her attentive, all encompassing care. You, my friend are a jewel!! I’m so thrilled you were my clients nurse. We have all become quite smitten with you!! ❤ And also a big resounding THANK YOU to Dr. Andy Hennenburg for his kindness, understanding & incredibly respectful sensitivity to this special family. You, Good Doctor made this transfer seamless and gave my clients great confidence in their "change of plans" decisions. I can’t begin to thank you enough. We definitely knew we were in good hands with this "A Team" at KH.
Waylon tipped the scales at 8 lbs 6 oz and is 19.75 inches tall. He is his parents highly anticipated 1st child. He also has two doggy siblings at home who are anxiously awaiting their new best friend.
Isn’t he just the cutest little guy? Gah!! I can’t quit looking at him. He was definitely worth all the hard work.
Meet Alexander Rhett, our First 2019 Turkey Baby (there’s another early labor brewing so maybe there’ll be two turkey babies 😉) Little Rhett was born this morning at 5:29 in water, into his father’s hands. He weighs 7lbs 12 oz and is 20" tall. That grin on Dad’s face, weighing his boy on a Cabella fish scale just makes my day!!! His mama is outrageously strong & bad-ass!! She went deep & primal during the last bit of labor and literally growled & roared her baby out. It was AMAZING!!! It was such a treat and honor to be a part of her birth team!! I’ll be on a birth high for days. Rhett is the 3rd son, 4th child and his parents 1st HazelTree baby!!
Meet Baby Bruce!! Isn’t he just the cutest thing?!?
His mother’s bad-assery determination along with the amazing support & encouragement from Dad & Auntie is what it took to accomplish this home birth. Krysta & I have a handful of new grey hairs, but he’s here, safe & sound.
Bruce was born a bit after 7 a.m. today after his parents labored for many, many hours. He is worth every bit of it, too!!!

Twenty Four years ago today, I attended my first doula birth. Hardly anyone knew what a doula was back then. I’ll never ever forget that night…in a warm & comfy little house along the Spokane River, watching the midwife hold space for the sweet little munchkin who was about to be born and change my life forever.
That midwife has since retired but she spoke words of power and foresight into my life that night. While I was sitting quietly out of the way for a moment, she looked me in the eye and said, "You’re a midwife. Do you know that? I see a midwife’s spirit within you."
Those words landed in rich, fertile soil and took root rapidly. They jettisoned me on to a journey I could have never imagined! Here I am 24 yrs later, having caught hundreds of babies myself. I’ve grown a thriving & respected midwifery practice. I’m training new midwives. I’ve been across this great big beautiful planet to learn & exchange with Maasai tribal midwives in Kenya. And now I’m in the throes of building a birth center in my community. What a wonderful, amazing life I have!!! And it all started with three little sentences.
Let this be a lesson to us all. Words are powerful!! You either speak truth or lies, blessings or curses, life or death.
Speak Truth. Speak Blessings. Speak LIfe. You never know where your words will land or where they will take someone. … See MoreSee Less
